ALMA REDEMPTORIS MATER
for mezzo and organ
A Marian Hymn in Latin. The organ part is what is called a "trio", in that the right hand, the left hand and the pedals all operate independently, as though each were a separate and discrete instrument.

This one exists in a number of different arrangements. It was first composed for mezzo and recorder trio, but recorder trios? Thin on the ground. Then a piano version, which didn't sound quite right (I don't write for the piano very well). Then a wind trio -- flute, clarinet and bassoon -- which should sound really good, but once again, not quite easy to find performers for something like that. So here we are, with an organ trio. Get in touch with me for the other versions, I wouldn't mind hearing them eventually.

We recorded this on November 22, 2019, at St. James United in Montréal. Mezzo Serina Itri sings, and my ever dependable buddy Adrian Foster plays the organ (and also took care of the technical wizardry).
