JE FLÂNE À LA BRUNANTE
for baritone and cello
This was my contribution to a remarkable project by my pals Tim Wilfong and Laura Jacyna of Frisson Duo, who reached out to a bunch of composers when they realised that the repertoire for baritone and cello was, essentially, nil. Well it bloody well isn't anymore. The whole thing culminated with an online recital with about fifteen new pieces on the programme. It was an honour to have my stuff performed by these two excellent musicians.
The piece is a short, swinging number that calls Poulenc to mind, setting a French-language sonnet I ended up writing myself.
