A couple of months ago, the Cathedral Church of St. John the Evangelist in Winnipeg launched an Anthem Composition Competition. I was really excited about it, and I wrote this thing for SATB and organ, and it's pretty good.
Well, obviously the competition has been cancelled. These things happen, and it's hardly earth-shattering, but I'd be lying if I were to say it didn't bother me a bit. I worked hard on this piece, and I'm quite happy with it. I've been writing for the organ for some years, and it's finally starting to bear fruit I think. It's a setting of a text I wrote myself, basing it on the "I am" statements that Christ makes in the Gospel of John (I am the way, I am the true vine, stuff like that).
Anyway, the cancellation of the event doesn't mean the piece doesn't exist anymore, so I put the score here on the Sacred Music page.
